Understanding how resources are divided across the resource pool tree makes it obvious that resource pools should not be used as a folder structure. Often, we come across environments that use resource pools as a folder structure in the “Hosts and Clusters” view of vCenter, because it helps the administrator identify relationships between the virtual machines. Using resource pools for this purpose generates unnecessary load on vCenter and the ESXi hosts and can affect virtual machine performance.
