“I am exhausted. I’m going straight to the shower. You know where everything is, make yourself at home. Mi casa is su casa. Pajamas are in my top drawer.”

“I’m good,” Morgan said, flopping herself on the couch.

She had too much of that good wine. She was never really good at holding her liquor. The ride home was a trek and at this time of night it just made sense to crash at her place, as if she needed a reason. Work was only a twenty-minute ride from there.

She refrained from bringing up her decision to move to the burbs as a single woman for the hundredth time, but Morgan believed actions prompted the manifestations of desires. She had a plan and it made sense for her. She was an eternal optimist and for the most part, it worked in her favor.

Posh finally came out to greet her. It took her a while to get anywhere. “Hi baby,” she said, smothering her Downy scented face with kisses.

As Morgan settled onto the couch, she ventured into the bathroom. All this planning and fretting about how her friend would receive her gifts and intentions was mentally and emotionally draining. She would’ve put a stop to it if she didn’t enjoy the entire process. She had never gone out of her way for anyone if there wasn’t something in it for her and she saw how giving without expectations, was like soup for the soul. She’d find other ways to do it more.

She was sipping on another glass of wine and checking a mountain of emails when Morgan was done with her turn from the bathroom. She found the pajamas she left there the last time she spent the night. It reminded her of how often she did crash at her place. It seemed so long ago.

Morgan sat next to her and stared at the coffee table.

“What?”

“How many of these laced brownies do you have lying around.”

It’s the same one,” she chuckled. “I just emptied out my bag. You want one now?”

“No. I don’t like the idea of being out of control like that. You can take it.”

“It’s no fun by myself.”

A soft knock came at the door. They both froze as if whoever was on the other side could see them.

“You’re expecting someone?”

“Nope.” She made her way towards the door and took a peek at the peephole. When she saw who it was, she doubled over with a hard laugh.

“What? Who is it?”

She composed herself. “It’s the chick I was telling you about,” she whispered. “Sidney.” She collected herself, and with her heart in her throat she opened the door. “So you found me.”

Sidney smiled. “It was easy. There is a dangerous amount of information about you on the internet. You should look into that.”

“Good to know. Will do.”

She was acting cool, but her racing heart threatened to out her. Sidney was holding a Whole Foods bag she shifted from arm to arm.

“What you got in there?”

“Some goodies.”

“For me?”

“Only if you’re a good girl.
