Command Notes

To open a terminal window, find Terminal using the Activities, Search box

Commands are case sensitive and are mostly all lower case

You should be logged in to the administrator account to enter any commands which begin with sudo . The sudo command allows the user to enter a single command as super user.

The command line

Linux commands are often a quicker and easier way to accomplish many tasks. This section will introduce a few of the several thousand available Linux commands. Start by opening a terminal window and trying some of the basic commands shown in the table below. More information about the listed command may be found with the man (manual) command.

The terminal window is opened by finding Terminal using the Activities, Search box. The following list shows some useful Linux commands. For a more comprehensive list try ss64.com/bash or many other online references.
