Clyde casually leaned back in the high-back, leather, Windsor chair in Ben’s study sipping on a perfectly aged, fifteen year old Whisky. There were times in Clyde’s employment that he was treated with the amount of respect he deserved. These times, of course, were usually accompanied by the task of torturing someone or utilizing his family gift of stealing their soul and turning them to stone. On this occasion, he knew it was going to be the latter of the two.

As if thinking his name summoned him, Ben walked in with his usual air of authority and power. He looked over at Clyde who had seemingly made himself overly comfortable in his office, drinking his aged whisky.

“I have several buyers ready to pay top dollar for our newest acquisitions. They are coming in tomorrow to view the current stock in the warehouse.” Ben took his seat across from Clyde and poured himself two fingers of whisky. He wasn’t exactly ready for his buyers to come and view what he had, but they were prepared to purchase.

He also hadn’t heard from Pesta, who was specifically looking for a female Harbinger. Did she somehow know that he didn’t yet possess the creature? He knew she couldn’t possibly be from this world. He doubted that anyone outside this room knew about Jenna’s existence.

“What are they looking for?” Clyde didn’t have to ask what they wanted, he truly didn’t care. Human or creature from the black lagoon, made no difference to him. What he did want to know was who had requested the female Harbinger. That was the person he needed to be in contact with. Whatever they had promised Ben must be well worth the prize.

“They will buy whatever we tell them to buy. And, for whatever price we put on it.”

“What about the buyer for the female Harbinger? Should I speak to them and tell them there has been a delay?” Clyde wanted the contact, needed the contact. Anyone who requested such a rare and specific creature wasn’t from this world and held more than just cash as payment.

“Well, she wants something we don’t yet possess.” Realizing he may have given away more that he wanted, he quickly changed the subject back to the two men arriving in the morning.

“And, as for the others, we have several fine new specimens in the lab right now.” Ben couldn’t help but think about the Peri and the Harbinger. Plenty to keep those buyers hot, but not what he needed. He needed to get his hands back on Jenna. The three hundred or so sculptures he had in storage would work for them. But, for Pesta, not even the rare Peri would do.

Clyde had been working side by side with Ben long enough to know what his boss was thinking. “I’ll make sure we have several new sculptures for our buyers.” He held up his ungloved hand and looked at it. All the power in the world at his fingertips.

“So, by the time our guy wakes up, we need to be ready to have him change.
