I woke up with the lingering scent of sandalwood in my nostrils. The dream still swirled inside my mind as I prepared to face the demon and have breakfast.

"Good morning, my dear hunter," he greeted me cheerfully.

"Good morning," I replied flatly and piled food onto my plate.

The breakfast buffet was inspired by the East, with curd, figs, honey, and some dishes I couldn't recognize on display. I took a little of everything while the demon watched my every move.

"If I had known you enjoyed the Double so much, I would have started with this version from the beginning," he said after a prolonged pause, sipping from his goblet.

"I never said I enjoyed it," I said with a mouthful of food.

"You didn't need to."

"I only play your games, Dante, because you give me no other choice."

His grin widened, but he didn't refute my words. For a whole minute, he watched as I ate with that amused expression on his face. It was getting on my nerves.

"What?" I snapped.

"You called me by my name."

"So?" I frowned.

"It wasn't 'demon' or 'bastard' or any other epithets you've thrown before. I consider this great progress in our relationship, Erin."

With disdain, I watched Dante as I chewed and swallowed the delicious food. "First of all," I began, "there is no such thing as 'our relationship.' Second of all, calling you by your stupid name means nothing. So wipe that smug expression off your face, demon." I delivered the final blow with confidence.

Dante replied with a simple "Mhm."

"Think what you want, demon—whatever makes your dull, dark days easier to survive," I said, rolling my eyes at him.

His expression momentarily turned serious, as if he had something to say. But instead, he drained the last dregs of his goblet and refilled it in silence.

After breakfast, I retreated to the library, scanning the shelves of books for a solution to my problem. I sighed. My fruitless search for the elusive 'liquid sunshine' had left me feeling disheartened. It was the only lead I had and I wished I had inherited at least one academic bone in my body.

Hours passed as I delved deeper into the alchemical texts, poring over each page for any mention of the substance. Just as I was about to give up, something in the text caught my eye. A recipe for a serum that promised to be lethal to demons. The name of the serum was translated from another language and was supposed to mean ‘A Collection of Sun Rays.’

My heart raced as I gathered the necessary ingredients and began to mix the serum. The scent of herbs and oils filled the air as I worked, my hands shaking with anticipation. Would this be my final weapon against Dante? Could this night be the last?

Finally, the serum was ready. Despite the work, I had plenty of time left. The smells made me queasy, so I decided to go for a walk in the beautiful garden. I asked the demon not to follow, as I needed some time for myself to gather my thoughts.
