Over the next couple of weeks, the guilt finally started to fade. Thankfully, Arjan had never called. She wouldn’t have seen him if he did, but the fact that he didn’t made it easier to put the whole thing out of her mind.

Sahiti was again at Rick’s condo having lunch. They usually tried to have lunch together at least once or twice per week, but occasionally he would cook for her at his penthouse. The two colleagues were getting closer – really bonding. Afterwards, they sat on the couch and talked for a bit. Nothing untoward happened during lunch, and she found that she felt better about herself as a result. As if that one innocent lunch alone with another man in his apartment would somehow erase her recent infidelity. As if that one gesture would prove to everyone that she could be trusted.

Just a few days later, Sahiti got some difficult news. Rick was being transferred. It made her sad. Depressed, even. The office wouldn’t be the same without him. He had been the perfect coffee buddy. A shoulder to lean on. Once again she would be stuck venting to Brian about office issues, when he just wouldn’t understand the politics.

As for Rick - he was almost relieved to find out that he would be transferred out of their building next week. The temptation was becoming too much. He was married, even though there was little life left in it. All the same, after that kiss he felt a little guilty every time he spent time with Sahiti. So this transfer was almost a relief. Almost. She was clearly disappointed when he told her. But it would save them from the temptation.
