Chapter Twenty-Seven

Thorn

It took time to calm myself. My entire being was consumed by anger, and my body quivered with the intensity of it. The only reason I had not smashed everything in the small camp that was created outside my cabin was because my Ellie was in my arms.

Eman came from behind me and held a furred blanket from my bed. Instead of snapping as to why he invaded my home, I snatched it from him, covering my Ellie from the scarce moonlight and the darkness that had set over us.

The light sources had long set since it took me so long to release my pent-up anger and emotions to even ask who this male who seeks my female.

“Eman was playing with his words, like he always does,” my seeded orgamo said with a roll of his eyes. “And now you have wasted all of our time, Eman.”

Eman smirked, pushed the flat iron skillet into the fire, and let the kernels of corn continue to pop. He was making a food called popcorn that many shifters liked to eat when they watched something amusing. Azuk requested it as soon as I roared and stomped around the camp, leaving large footprints in the soil and my hands pulling low-lying limbs from the trees.

“I’m still impressed that his miresa slept through all that,” Azuk said, taking a handful of popcorn and shoving it into his mouth. “That bond has her trusting him far more than any other creature of this realm to any orc.”

My Ellie let out a little snore, and her nose rubbed into my chest. She was more peaceful now. She was resting in the crook of my arm, and if I had just paid attention to her instead of losing myself in my emotions, I might have calmed myself quicker.

No. I believe I still would have wanted to destroy something.

The fire crackled and popped, the only audible presence amongst us. The night draped us in a thick veil of darkness, with only a faint sliver of the blue moon illuminating the sky. A thin blanket of clouds obscured the stars while the smoke from the surrounding flames enshrouded us, masking our presence from the heavens. The scent of burning wood permeated the air, and the warmth of the fire enveloped us, providing a sense of comfort in the midst of the desolate night.

My body shifted, wrapping my mate in my arms. She smelled of mead and smoke, but I could still smell the aroma that attracted me to her from the very first day.

She was unsettled; I could feel it as I brushed my hand on her chest beneath the blankets. My Ellie was upset, and I know my orgamos mentioned orclings, but I have told her I do not care about offspring.

I cared for only her.

“The ogre you said you have been trying to capture in your territory has been to ours,” my seeded orgamo said.

I was startled by his sudden outburst, causing my head to snap up, and my body instinctively curled around my Ellie.
