Conversation Starters

If you haven’t reached COOL GUY/GAL status yet then chances are you may have to start a few conversations yourself. I generally like going up to the most alone or awkward-looking people. Why? Because they’ll get a kick out of being spoken to, and after all they’re the kind of people I can relate to.

Here are some great sentences to start you off onto a lengthy discussion about nonsense.

For talking to guys:

‘Hey man, 2012 eh?’

‘Hey man, are you into space and time?’

‘Hey man, are you into watches?’

‘Hey dude. Funny word ‘dude’, isn’t it? Look at us, just a couple of dudes.’

‘Nice shirt, man. Ping pong?’

‘Great vibes here, huh? What about over here?’ (move slightly)

‘What are your feelings on Bigfoot?’

‘Hey man, do you own any flippers?’

‘Schwarzenegger or Stallone growing up?’

‘Skateboarding as an adult … theories?’

‘Hey man, Tintin fan?’

‘Hey man, favourite explorer?’

‘Hey bud, have you ever been whale watching?’

‘Is that your muscle car parked out on the street?’

‘Hey – Mike? No? … Jason? There are only so many names.

If I keep trying one of these will hit … Tarquin?’
