The next morning, I awoke, and Blaze wasn’t there. I laid my head back on the pillow and sighed. That was until I heard what sounded like a video game being played outside.

“Get em! Get em!” I heard Jolli yell.

I laughed and slid out of bed, going to the bathroom to freshen up. When I came out of the room, Jolli was sitting on the couch, game controller in hand, turning and twisting it in the direction he wanted his player to go.

“Morning, Jolli,” I said, giving him a wave.

Blaze told me yesterday that when he wasn’t home, he would have a team member staying with me because, although he felt I was safe here, he wasn’t willing to take any chances.

Jolli paused the game. “Oh, I’m sorry. Playing this game had me happy as a hog in slop. Did I wake you?”

I grinned and shook my head. “No, you didn’t. It looks like fun. What are you playing?” I asked.

“Some old zombie game,” he offered, picking up a second controller. “You want in?”

“Most definitely,” I said, appreciative of the invite. “Let me just get some coffee.”

“Sweet,” Jolli said.

Stepping into the kitchen, I stopped dead in my tracks when I noticed a cream-colored box with a familiar logo.

I knew this box.

It carried the shoes from René Caovilla. Shoes that I was only supposed to receive if I won the bet, but I didn’t win. Blaze did.

I walked over to the counter and picked up the small card beside the box.

Flipping it over, I read the handwritten message:

You never lose when you are with me. Thanks for the taste, I’ll be wanting more soon.

P.S. You did good, princess.

Blaze.

I swear, I almost came again.
