At Longbourn Mr Bennet cogitated on all that Elizabeth had told him, getting angrier by the minute.

While he was the first to admit that he was an indolent estate manager and a negligent husband and father, there were certain limits, and Miss Darcy and Miss Bingley had crossed the line. They would learn that they had underestimated him, and he would be able to have fun at their expense.

He considered all the ways it might be possible to stop this defamation without causing further scandal and damage to his daughters’ reputation.

Eventually he came up with what he considered to be the perfect solution. Despite his reluctance towards correspondence, he had Hill bring him his writing case and proceeded to compose a letter.

When he read the final version of the missive, he nodded with a grim smile. Yes, that should do the trick.
