Chapter 15

In response to your questions, I’ve done my best to compile a few answers. I offer an apology in advance.

Firstly, I realize that these expense reports lack receipts, dates, or sometimes even descriptions. He shows up almost at random, drops off his expense reports at the nearest official office, and usually leaves before I can so much as read the telegram sent to me. If I could force him to sit down and answer some questions about his expenses I would, but I’m one accountant, and contrary to popular belief, I don’t have an army of rangers to track him down at will.

Which leads me to my second point: When I was told I’d be working on a project of public safety and national wellbeing, I was not informed that my responsibilities would almost solely be serving as nanny and cleanup crew for some wizard who I’ve never even had the pleasure of meeting. (And yes, I know who he really is. He told me upfront in the one correspondence he sent me. I was not pleased about that either, let me tell you.)

Third, and finally, I cannot speak for why he needs all the silver he’s taken. I would assume it’s for some kind of spirit machine, it would explain the fabrication tools he’s purchased, but I can’t be more specific than that. If I manage to catch him while he’s in a town and can get him to explain himself, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine. I’m not responsible for your poor hiring decisions.
