MYSTERIES

We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.

This second part of the book concerns aspects of the spiritual life more closely related to the action of God’s grace. The first chapter deals with the central mystery of grace, the presence in us of the Holy Spirit and “Identification with Christ.” From this arises the way of living described in the next chapter, “Love of God.”

“Prayer” takes up the ordinary, filial relationship of the Christian with God. “The Eucharist” focuses on the central mystery of the order of things established by God in the world after sin. In the light of Christ’s sacrifice we discover a true “Sense of Sin.” And this leads us to be sorry and to show repentance in sacramental “Confession.” The chapter called “Death and Life” discusses identification with Christ and voluntary mortification, which purifies us from the consequences of sin and shows our love for God. “Love for the Church” is a consequence of loving Christ and of knowing that redemption reaches us through it. “Christian Maturity” deals with active participation in the mission of the Church. Finally, as part of identification with Christ, one discovers “Mary, the Mother of God,” who is also our mother and a sure way to Christ.
