Rescuing Lexie. Book 3.

Isaac

“Zeke’s an ass,” I grumbled as Miles drove us over to Lexie’s house. Zeke had called asking us to make sure she got home alright. Which was fine, only she wasn’t answering her phone. “She’s probably taking a bath or something.”

“And if she’s not?” Miles asked calmly. I hated that calm voice. It always made me feel like I was the crazy one.

“She might just want to be left alone. You know, girl time,” I pointed out. Dylan was in jail. Red was perfectly fine to go home alone.

“We’re checking.” Miles’ voice turned icy. I stopped arguing. We were already on her street, there was no point in arguing about it.

Miles parked behind the Blazer. I got out grumbling. Until I heard barking and whimpering. Hades. Without a word, we both sped up. Miles opened the Blazer door. Hades jumped into Miles’ arms still crying and barking.

“What are you doing outside?” Miles struggled to hold the squirming puppy as I headed for the door.

I stopped. The door was wide open, and her bags were on the porch. My stomach turned as I ran for the house. Heart racing, I jumped over the bags and through the door. I slammed the light on. “Lexie!”

She wasn’t downstairs. I ran for the stairs taking them two at a time. I slammed open her bedroom door, empty. I practically kicked in the bathroom door. Empty. “She’s not up here!” Fear knotted in my chest as I ran down the stairs. Miles already had his phone out. Hades was walking in circles, whimpering.

“I’m checking her location now.” Miles’ voice was glacial. I waited, pacing, as he hit buttons. He went still. “Call your brother and tell him to send her a text message about band practice.”

I pulled out my phone and called.

“What?” Ethan grumbled.

“We can’t find Lexie,” I told him immediately. “Text her, ask if she’s coming to band practice.”

“What’s going on?” Ethan demanded, his voice boiling.

“Lexie’s gone, her bags were outside, Hades was in the Blazer, and the door was open.” I took a deep breath. “She’s not here, brother.”

“I’ll text her now. I’ll call you back.” Ethan hung up.

I kept pacing, my mind filled with images of what could have happened to her. What the psycho could be doing to her. I wanted to get my hands on him. My cell rang.

“She’s in trouble, she called me blue eyes and it sure as hell didn’t read like her,” Ethan growled.

I turned to Miles. “She texted blue eyes and the guy has got her phone.”

Miles' eyes turned cold, his mouth pressed into a tight line as he dialed. “Rory, Lexie’s been taken. I have the coordinates of her location; 47°58'22.1"N 114°20'21.5"W. It’s off Dayton Creek Road.” Miles headed for the door; I left Hades behind and followed. We ran for the car and got in. Miles put it on speaker.

“I’m sending cars now. Leave this to us.” Rory’s voice was firm. Miles peeled out onto the road before I even had my seatbelt on.
