Chapter Ten

The curtains were barely cracked, abalone morning filtered in through the open space. I stretched, my limbs sore from the night before. None of that was out of the ordinary, not even the man asleep beside me, his features still soft and angelic as they’d been when he was buried so inside me.

It was the flash of large diamonds that caught my attention, the weight of metal on my hand that snared my mind back to reality.

He’d asked me to marry him.

This vampyre, this living myth had asked me to marry him. First, for concern of my happiness and peace of mind. And when he’d realized that I cared for him, he did so because he loved me.

And I said yes.

I was a fool. My lip rolled between my teeth, mind unable to sort through the thoughts that were coming at a rapid speed.

I’d temporarily forgotten about Rosemary, the hidden letters and mysterious Adam.

And I was a human. While he was paranormal and magical, I was…not.

Henry stirred beside me, my favorite shade of blue greeted me as his eyes peeled open with a sleepy smile. “Good morning,” he said, voice thick with exhaustion. It rubbed itself down my body like a lover, setting every nerve on fire.

“Good morning,” I squeaked.

“Do you think the staff haven’t bothered to wake us because of all the delicious cries you made last night?” he hummed, wrapping his arms around my waist and hauling me into him. Embarrassment wound around me as well, turning me in on myself.

“I really need to stifle my own noises,” I muttered against his skin. He chuckled, a deep and throaty sound that brought comfort.

“Please never do, I love it. They’ll have to learn to deal with it, seeing as how we will be married.” Henry nuzzled into my hair.

“Oh, God!” I laughed, pushing away. He let out a playful snarl and tightened his hold.

“Can you imagine our wedding night? Perhaps I will have to send them away for a while so I can fuck you in every room of this estate without worry they’ll pop in,” he breathed against the shell of my ear.

I shivered, pressing my thighs together at his words, sending a spark of need up my spine.

His hand trailed my naked body to my center, “Do you like that idea?” he asked, another hand cupping my breast.

“More than I’d like to admit,” I confessed, mouth dancing over his. He growled as he eased a finger inside me, taking my bottom lip between his teeth.

“I can tell.”

Someone knocked on the door but Henry ignored it, continuing his tortuous strokes. I arched under his touch, lost in the sensation of a second finger slipping inside my wetness.

I whimpered.

They knocked again.

Henry gave a hard exhale, withdrawing his fingers, eyes dancing as he put them to my mouth. “Clean them for me,” he demanded.

I grinned, parting my lips to suck those fingers in, swirling my tongue over our combined taste–salt and copper and musk.

Flames of lust burned in his gaze as I took his long fingers as far back as they could go, pulling them out lazily.
