King of the Hill
King of the Hill was a cartoon series created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels set in Texas featuring a character called Hank Hill, his wife Peggy and son Bobby. The series aired on television from 1997 until 2010 (Shattuck, 2009). Notably the pilot episode featured a social worker named Anthony Page who worked for the âArlen County Child Protective Services.â In this episode the social worker investigated a black eye to Bobby, caused by a baseball, but rumoured by neigh-bours to have been caused by child abuse from Hank. In the episode the social worker uses jargon âMr. Hill, I feel that youâre coming from an anger mindset, and if youâre projecting your anger onto me, it gives me grave concerns as to how you facilitate your sonâs growth in privateâ and incompetently investigates the allegations until he is removed from the case by his manager. The depiction of the social worker is negative, as his behaviour is condescending, invasive and inappropriate.
