“Man, I cannot wait to dig into some chow,” Finn said, once they were back on the ship and heading belowdecks. “I saw a ton of canned goods in the cupboard so I bet there’s a bunch of tasty stuff to eat.”

“Oh good,” Sir Jacobus said, finally dislodging the sliver from his paw. “I feel like spaghetti.”

Finn opened the cupboard. “You’re in luck,” he told his friend. “There’s tomato sauce.” He reached for the can. “What the flip? It’s empty,” he exclaimed, throwing down the can. “Why would somebody keep an empty can in a cupboard?”

“Beats me,” Sir Jacobus said with a shrug. “I guess I could eat stew, instead.” He went to grab a large can of stew and was surprised how light it was. “Hey, wait a minute. This can is empty, too.”

“Oh no!” Finn felt a wave of dread wash over him. He flung the cupboard doors all the way open and started pulling out can after can. “Empty, empty, they’re all empty!” he wailed.

“Who would do such a thing?” Sir Jacobus said, completely bewildered as his stomach started to seriously growl.

“I know,” Finn said, slamming the cupboard doors shut. “It was that witch.”

“What do you mean?” Sir Jacobus wanted to know. It seemed unlikely the witch had been able to sneak aboard the ship and empty all the cans without them noticing.

“I mean, think about it,” Finn said. “First, no one would lend you a boat, so we had to special-borrow one. Then we got attacked by rabid sardines. Then you got that superpainful splinter and it started raining megahard. Now we’re stuck on a boat that doesn’t even have any food.” Finn thumped a timber with his fist. “That witch has obviously set up some kind of curse or something so that we can’t get to the island. This is all some kind of plot to prevent you from wooing Lady Rainicorn.”

“I knew it!” Sir Jacobus thundered. “We have got to go fight that witch and save my lady.”

“We can’t just run in there and fight her. She’s too powerful,” the Hu-manservant insisted. “She’s all magical and stuff.”

“But what can we do?” Sir Jacobus wailed. “The witch has got my beautiful lady held prisoner.”

“We need to get some magic for ourselves.”

“I guess we could go back to the mainland and find a powerful warlock or sorcerer or something,” Sir Jacobus concluded. “We’ll need to find one that knows how to battle a superbad witch.”

“Don’t sweat it,” Finn assured his boss. “I know just the guy.”
