Old Roger

HERE is a good singing game. Any number can play. One child has to be chosen to be Old Roger, who is laid in his grave; one has to represent the tree at the head of Old Roger's grave; and one has to come forth to pick the apples that fall from the tree.

Old Roger lies down on the ground (or floor) with a handkerchief over his face. All the others join hands and form a circle around him.

The circle can stand still while the words are sung, or the children can move slowly and solemnly around him.
