Erik greeted Magnus with a smile of welcome. "Magnus, it is good to see you, my friend."

"I have come with good news, Erik. One of my men thinks he discovered news of your daughter, and she lives."

Erik felt his eyes fill with unmanly tears and he quickly brushed them away, hoping his friend did not see them and think less of him.

"Do not be ashamed of loving your child, Erik," Magnus said quietly. "I, too, am a father of daughters, and my youngest is turning seventeen years soon. I would not be happy if I could not locate her. Even though she is sassy and feisty, and tries my patience daily, I love her with all my heart. I would be heartsick were she missing."

Erik nodded. "Thank you for offering comfort and friendship, Magnus." He then sat on the bench that circled most of his hall and motioned for his friend to sit as well. "Tell me what you have learned."

"My man questioned an innkeeper, and he admits to having had a girl who matches your Siv's description in his care. A big man came through, paid the innkeeper for the girl, and carried her off. My man tells me that the tavern keeper claimed the girl went of her own accord, although the man gave her a lesson over his knee for dumping ale over his head." Magnus watched his friend for his reaction, and was not surprised when the other man's face turned red with anger. If the girl were his Kristin, he would be enraged that a strange man had punished her.

"Did your man say where this large man took the girl?" Erik demanded furiously. He was going to go and see if it was his Siv, and if this man had carried off his daughter, and used her, he was going to run him through.

"Aye." Magnus imparted the information, and then announced. "I will travel with you, Erik. I have business there myself. Tis time to seek out my stubborn son and make amends."

"I will be ready to ride in an hour's time. You will eat whilst I ready myself," Erik invited, snapping his fingers, and ordering food brought.
