Chapter Seventeen

Tiernan

I do my best to block out the small crowd gathering and give Dmitri a short list of whips to retrieve for me, then I focus on readying Fiona. Instead of using something stationary and confining like the St. Andrew’s Cross, I choose a pair of wrist cuffs hanging from chains attached to a hard point in the ceiling. This will allow me to move around her freely and check in on her emotional state more thoroughly.

Taking advantage of the expectation that I would have a private conversation with the sub I intend to play with—especially one I supposedly don’t know—I speak just above a whisper next to her ear so only Fiona can hear me.

“If you’re not good with this, just say the word and I’ll figure another way out.”

“No, don’t. He’s already suspicious because you and Dmitri were so insistent about me. I’m glad you showed up when you did. I didn’t think he’d push me onto someone the second we got down here. I thought I’d have time to be on my own to poke around.”

“Believe me, I’m going to address your recklessness properly later.”

“We need to find those missing girls,” she whispers.

“We will. But first we need to get through this and away from scrutiny. I’m going to make this scene short, taking you through the stages as quickly and safely as I can. But make no mistake, the scene will be very real. Do you trust me?”

Blue eyes meet mine. “I do.”

I have a hard time thinking I deserve a female’s trust after what happened with Julie. That Fiona didn’t even hesitate makes me feel ten kinds of things that are so entangled I can’t tell them apart.

“I know you’re a masochist, but do you have experience as a whip bottom?”

“With floggers, yes. I’ve watched single whip scenes but never bottomed for one.”

The knot in my stomach tightens. “We’re not going that far. Dmitri’s grabbing a deerskin flogger, leather cat o’ nine, and a dragontail. What are your hard limits?”

She shakes her head. “I don’t have any that would come into play for this.”

“Good. We’ll use the traffic light system. Green means you’re fine and okay to continue, yellow means pause and check in, red is your safe word that stops everything and the scene is over. Understood?”

“I know what the traffic light system is, for gods’ sake.” I can tell she’s about to brat-out and roll her eyes, so I remind her that we’re being watched with a sharp raise of my brow. She immediately corrects her attitude, though I know for a fact it’s only because of the situation we’re in. “Understood. Master.”

I have to stop my lip from curling. That title might work well for Dmitri, but I was never fond of it. I preferred the common “Sir” when playing with subs before. Simple, impersonal. But neither of those feel right coming from Fiona.

“You may use that for now. We’ll need to agree on something different in the future.”

Her eyes widen behind the mask.
