Specific Enterprise Architecture Artifacts Related to Designs

Articulate subtypes of Designs often used in more or less successful EA practices include Solution Designs and Preliminary Solution Designs. Solution Designs can be considered as essential EA artifacts, while Preliminary Solution Designs as uncommon EA artifacts.

Solution Designs (Essential)

Solution Designs (can be also called detailed designs, technical designs, physical designs, high-level designs, project-start architectures, solution architectures, full solution architectures, solution definitions, solution specifications, etc.) are specific Designs providing detailed technical and functional specifications of approved IT solutions actionable for project teams. Solution Designs can be considered as an essential subtype of Designs found in the majority of successful EA practices.

Solution Designs represent finalized implementation-ready technical descriptions of IT projects approved by all project stakeholders. Solution Designs typically describe detailed functional and non-functional business requirements, business processes and use cases supported by IT projects as well as all layers of their technology stacks. Usually they cover all relevant EA domains, including business, applications, data, infrastructure and security, in fair detail sufficient to start the actual project implementation. Moreover, Solution Designs are often structured into different sections corresponding to these EA domains.
