Morana is determined to keep me for dinner and then she wants to show me some of her flowers that only bloom at night. Stepping into her garden is magical. There are flowers blossoming all over the space. A small fountain rests in the middle of the dais, separating the garden into quadrants. She has a large moss tree that branches beautifully at the back of the garden. Morana surprises me, showing me a bush of roses that are across from the tree. She tells me she planted them for me the day she learned they were my favorite flower. I cry for the fifth time tonight. It truly is the smallest gestures that means the most. Moranaâs garden is like her family, and every family member is represented in her garden.
âThatâs why your roses are planted next to Reznorâs flowers. Youâll see them bloom in a about half an hour and once they do, youâll understand why I orchestrated them this way.â
She motions me to sit on the ground, then hands me the teacup in her hand and kisses the top of my head. âEnjoy the show. I would stay up with you, but this old lady needs to get some sleep. Youâre welcome to stay as long as you like.â
I thank her then settle against the bark taking a sip of the warm tea. I wait for the flowers to bloom, and while I do, I feel the hum beneath my skin that only happens when the moon is shining down on me. Glancing skyward, a crescent moon peeks out behind the clouds. I watch the moon until the garden darkens, and for only a few seconds is the area basked in the shadows because the flowers start to bloom. The blossoms she has planted for Reznor open and glow a beautiful shade of purple, lighting up one by one until each one is lit.
A startled gasp leaves my throat. Not only are Reznorâs flowers glowing, but they are also lighting up my rose bush in the dark of the night. I hadnât noticed how the two plants have grown together, entwining in each other. Theyâre lighting up the dark, just like Morana said our auras do when we talk about the other.
I canât take my eyes off the flowers. I sit beneath the moss tree and watch until the blooms close as the sun starts to rise. They close like they started, one by one till they all have returned to their original black, and now itâs my roses that are highlighting his dark flower.
As much as I have enjoyed sitting in her garden all night, I need to get some sleep. Gathering my teacup, I wash it and return it to the kitchen before writing Morana a quick note, thanking her for the wonderful evening, and promising to return soon to see her.
Reaper is more than eager to get back into the car and enjoy the cool morning temperature as I drive back to the manor. He leaps out the second I open the door, then heâs leading the way through the house.
