CHAPTER 7

We all looked up to find our fourth had arrived. Cheryl is a tiny ball of energy and silicone. Shorter than my stepmom and slender as a rail, her only natural curves are her rounded tush. The others she bought for herself and never failed to flaunt them, much to the chagrin of my aching blue balls, whenever I spent much time with the woman.

“Speak of the devil,” my mom laughed.

Julie popped out of her chair and hugged Cheryl after an emotional meeting.

“It’s been years since we’ve seen each other,” Cheryl explained as she sank into her chair opposite of me.

“Where do you know each other from?”

The three shared secretive smiles, but it was my stepmom who finally answered.

“We were roommates in college.”

“Is that what we’re calling it, Jess?” Cheryl raised her eyebrow at my stepmom, who buried her face in her wineglass, eyes cutting over to see how I was taking everything.

“It was L.A. in the mid-nineties,” Julie explained. “Times were different back then. Three young women living alone in a studio apartment was normal. And when the photographers came to ‘document’ it,” she used air quotes with a wink to her friend. “It was just a crazy afternoon. It wasn’t supposed to be a whole thing.”

“Wait,” I said, “Back up and explain… what photographers?”

My stepmom let out a short sigh and waved for Cheryl to go ahead. The busty little woman had been bouncing on her chair in anticipation and launched into the story.

I knew my mom went to USC, but little else. It was a shock to learn these three shared a dorm, and later a studio apartment, and from the hinted looks thrown between them, apparently much more. As the alcohol flowed, those hints became more obvious, and I found myself trying to memorize everything for later fantasies.

“It was our junior year they put us in the magazine,” Cheryl flashed me a wink.

“Magazine?”

“You’re looking at three Playmates,” Julie drawled, hooking an arm behind her chair as she stuffed a bit of fried calamari and aioli in her mouth as she turned to the other two.

I blinked in confusion for a moment, the word not registering until I met my mom’s eyes. Only for a second, before she looked down in shame. Then it clicked and I swore softly.

“You’re not serious,” I breathed, earning myself a snort of laughter from the raven-haired beauty.

“You’re ashamed, aren’t you?” mom shook her head, reaching for her purse in a gesture I knew that said she was pulling the plug and about to flee, but I reached out and grabbed her wrist.

“I’m not ashamed,” I shook my head, “Startled, but never ashamed.”

“See, Jess,” Cheryl said. “I told he would understand.” Then she flashed me an impish smile and leaned forward, doing delightful things to her round breasts and low-cut top. “Do you want to see them?”

“Cheryl!” Mom’s head snapped up, but her frown of disapproval faltered when Julie let out a throaty purr.

“Mhmm, I want to see them. You still have copies?”

“I got the negatives.
