One research paper claims to examine how students “establish successful cooperation” interculturally. He wonders: From whose perspective can success be assessed? What if students perform their cooperation as successful for their teacher? Do we all see success the same way? What does success mean? Isn’t failure a good thing, too? Is research about evaluating success in interculturality thus pushing only one side of the coin?

To hold the truth in French is détenir la vérité. Détenir is also found in the idea of keeping someone in jail or sending them to jail (en détension). Speaking about interculturality does not necessarily mean speaking the truth. Like all discourses, interculturality is (re-)negotiated, (un-)spoken between us. Thus one ‘slice’ of discourse might be contradicted by another within seconds.
