Feature teams are cross-functional teams that are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of product features or capabilities, as guided by the Product Owner. They are free to change or add code across the entire software stack. Adopting a Feature Team approach requires the Product source code be managed in an open way, so that any authorized team member can modify the code (see Figure 6-1).

OPTIONAL PRACTICE: MANAGING CODE LIKE an OPEN-SOURCE PROJECT

Using an “open source”-like coding approach requires organizational commitment and greater developer discipline. Organizations that adopt it typically have very strong mentoring cultures, and they make time for developers to share with other developers. They often adopt pair programming techniques to help developers learn good techniques from one another.
