THE TERRORISTS LIVE
While virtually everyone seems to think the horror of ISIS has been relegated to the dustbin of evildoers of history, we clearly saw that ISIS has simply migrated to a different part of the world.
Whatâs happening in Nigeria is the latest mutation of the long tale of modern Islamist extremism from Sayyid Qutb to Ayman al-Zawahiri to Osama bin Laden to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to the leaders of Boko Haram.
Its epicenter has traveled from Saudi Arabia and Egypt to Sudan and then to Somalia and then to Afghanistan. The epicenter shifted to Iraq and Syria, and now it is shifting to the northeast of Nigeria. It is present in countless countries and in the hearts of millions of potential lone-wolf extremists throughout the entire world. But always there have been epicenters serving as Terrorism Central.
One of those epicenters is within the country with more Christians than any other on the continent, a country that represents a dividing line between its Islamic North and its Christian South, a country rich with oil and poor in governance, a country where horror and terror are allowed to roam freely with no accountability. As Isaiah 59:15 says, âTruth is nowhere to be found, / and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. / The LORD looked and was displeased / that there was no justice.â
The time has more than come to rescue those being led away to death:
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, âBut we knew nothing about this,â
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay everyone according to what they have
done? (Proverbs 24:11â12)
