Chapter 32

It is dark as hell again, I thought. It is weird, though; I’m not scared. It seems my life is unrolling before me. Time travel… I don’t know… maybe. I guess there is such a thing, at least to go back and visit your past life. Or maybe this is just all a big series of dreams induced by the drugs I am on. I am dreaming up a past that is a mystery to me. I know that there were a lot of bad things that happened, and I guess, in trying to figure them out, my mind is just wandering around in a daze, just dreaming up anything at all… Or not…

Okay… here we go…

I think I see something, might be light, way off in the distance. Alright, just as I thought, moving forward now, the wheels are in motion. I don’t know what to expect, but hey… there is nothing I can do, so bring it on…

I’m getting closer and closer to the very bright light. I could use my sunglasses right about now… there is movement, but I can’t tell what it is. Not close enough yet. Patience… hey, I’ve got plenty of that. Oh, here we go, I hear something… a voice. It’s calling out me.

“Roberta!”

It was a soft beautiful voice. She was back. I knew it was her.

“Mom!” I cried. “You are back, Mom; I missed you so much.”

There she was, right in front of me, her arms extended as if she was going to hold me. Oh no… the waterworks again. I did not want to cry. I wanted to be happy. I could feel the love radiating from her beautiful eyes and a welcoming smile. I wanted to get closer, but it was not happening. Something was holding me back.

“My darling Roberta, I know you are having a really rough time lately, but you are strong, and you will get through it. I am watching over you every step of the way. You can’t keep hiding from your life. You need to get back to reality. It is not time for you to be with me. You have your whole life ahead of you. Go back now; you have good people taking care of you. Someone new has shown an interest; she can be trusted. Let her in. Accept her help and work hard to heal yourself and get back in shape. In time, things will work out, but always remember that I will never be very far. I love you, my darling… be strong.”

With that, she was gone. She disappeared so fast that I didn’t even have time to say anything to her.

“I love you, Mama,” I whispered. “I love you.”
