“That could have gone better,” Amelia mused.

“Maybe we need Beulah to tell us what he owes her,” Madison suggested. “You did a great job, Logan, but I feel like you were forced to be vague with the ‘payment’ and ‘exit’ stuff. It kind of took the bite out of your threats.”

“Well, that crummy Intimidation roll didn’t help either,” Logan added. “I would have used Guidance before we entered the room, but I was concentrating on Charm Person.”

“Oh! Next time I can give you Enhance Ability too!” Amelia said excitedly. “Whichever one boosts Intimidation. That’ll really help.”

“Is there going to be a next time?” Madison asked. “We just got thrown out. Will you be able to charm the guard again next time?”

“Well, I need to do some recon first,” Logan replied. “I think we know who his benefactors are, but it would be good to get some information about them if we can.”

“How are we going to do that?” Madison asked. “We got kicked out, remember?”

“Wait! Wait!” Amelia said excitedly, flipping her character sheet over to look at her spell list. “I have fifth-level spells now. I can use Scrying on him!”

“Yes, we will probably need to do that,” Logan said with an enthusiastic nod, proud of Amelia for seeing that possibility. “But for now, I just need to stay within one hundred feet of the room where we met with him.” Logan smiled at his sisters, waiting for them to figure out what he had done.

“I was wondering why you were so enthusiastic about snapping your fingers,” Madison said with a sly smile. “What’s the plan?”
