If someone asks you out, and you want to go, answer yes, unless you need your parents' permission or aren't sure if you have plans. Then your answer should be something like, "I'm glad you asked, but I need to check it out with my parents, look in my assignment notebook, or check with my social secretary." Call or email back as soon as you know one way or another.
Just say, "Want to hang out on a certain day?" Then make plans. âWillie, age 13
If you don't want to go out with the person, don't say, "I wouldn't be caught dead with you," pretend to throw up, or make faces. Politely say, "I already have plans, but thanks for asking." If the same person keeps asking you out, you may need to be more direct: "Gee, I think you're a great person, but I just don't see us going out together." Be as kind as you can, while still being clear about your feelings on the matter.
