“He’s sick and his mother went crazy!” The tiny old woman told me, in their house made of mud. On one bed a child, of almost 3 summers, with a high fever and sweat pouring from him like water from a river. Next to him, his mother; she’s pregnant but her face looks like she has seen a ghost.

“Did you use holy water on the entrances of the house?” I ask. This case can be many things. I need to rule out some of the options, quickly.

“Yes, we did! The house isn’t haunted I talked to the priest about this.” She is desperate, her nephew and daughter will die if I do not take care of this.

“Where is the husband? Does he randomly go into the woods?”

‘He’s in the barn, drinking and crying. He hasn’t left the yard since this happened. During the day he takes care of them both, at night he swallows his pain.”

“So it’s not the iele.” This could be a curse, but if it is then who is to blame? A jealous woman? Maybe a witch; or both? “Did your daughter have any enemies?”

“Gods save us, everybody loves her! I tell you if something happens to my daughter or her family, the village will go to war.”

I have an idea on what it might be, but if it is what I presume it to be, I don’t think there is much that I can do.

‘Give them holy water to drink. Is there anything I can use to write?” The old woman points me towards a piece of charcoal, shaped to be used for writing. “I will write something on the wall, you have to copy everything exactly as I write it.”

“But I don’t know how to write!”

“Imitate it if you care for your daughter!”

My hands are trembling, but I must have the courage to save this woman and her kid.

I write the first word with one hand. With the other, I clutch my crossbow with silver bolts.

Vestitia

The old woman screams like she has seen a ghost. When I turn my eye quickly towards her, the ghostly figure of a woman appears and quickly disappears.

I must steel my courage; it will only get worse from here on out.

Navadaraia

The figure no longer fades in and out of the room. This time the image remains steady, yet no one can make out what is its true form.

Valnomia

The woman is not real. A hideous caricature of the gods’ creation. Her ugly face is accompanied by long hair that reaches to its heels, with breasts that reach the earth. Long and sharp nails, hands like the steel of axes, her eyes bright like tiny stars

I move my eyes from her fast and quickly I move my hand to write the others

Sina

Nicosda

Avezuha.

The woman in the room screams and from her mouth a river of fire erupts. The demon jumps at me with her long nails. I move out of the way, but I hit the wall, I grab my sword and pull it out before her next attack.
