CHAPTER FIVE

The next morning, Levi awoke alone. Nick had been in his bed last night. The memory made his stomach flutter. Levi chewed on his lower lip. He had revealed his desire to be intimate to Nick. There was no going back from that. And the kiss … Levi sat on the bed for a while as he remembered the events from the previous night.

He had enjoyed spending the night with Nick, even if they had only cuddled and kissed. It excited him to think about it. But when the shooting came to mind, Levi frowned. His stomach twisted with nerves, but he knew he’d have to talk to his father about it. By now, Wolf would know about the attack, and Levi was sure that he’d be facing some new measures to guarantee his own safety.

After getting dressed, Levi stepped outside to the front of the mansion. Despite wanting to avoid reality, Levi knew that he couldn’t act like the attack hadn’t happened. His stomach sank at the sight of the Mercedes. In daylight, it looked worse than it had the night before, and Levi wondered how they had managed not to get shot. Nick was already outside, and they shared a brief look. Wolf stood by the bullet-riddled car, his back to Levi.

“Did you get their license number?” Wolf asked.

“No sir,” Nick said.

“Did they say anything to you?”

“They only shot at us.”

There was a whistle from behind Levi. Diego walked past him and observed the damaged car. “Who wants you dead?” Diego asked, crossing his tattooed arms over his chest.

Focusing on the vehicle, Levi frowned. “I don’t know. It was … random.” It felt that way, but Levi knew that an attack like that had to be planned. There was a reason why those men had shot at them, and Levi wanted to know why he was a target.

“Looks like it’s Wolf’s problem, then,” Diego said.

Diego and Wolf shared a look before Wolf turned to face Levi. “Remember to always be alert, even when you think you’re safe. And Levi … I don’t want you to leave the mansion until we sort this problem out, understand?”

Levi didn’t like the idea of staying at home all the time, especially when he didn’t know for how long. But it was clear his life was in danger, and there was no point in arguing with his father. It was all for Levi’s protection. He nodded and remained silent.

His father’s chauffeur parked before them, and Wolf got in the back seat before the sedan drove out of the gates. Without another word, Diego left in his sports car. Then two of Wolf’s men removed the Mercedes from the premises.

“I thought he’d be more pissed with me,” Levi said simply.

“This isn’t your fault, and you did nothing wrong,” Nick said.

“They attacked me for a reason. I should be the one to find out who it was and take care of it myself, not wait for my dad to fix it for me.”

“Let Wolf handle this.
