Chapter Seven

"I just don't get it." Vivica sat on her couch with the stripped tiger, Daddy Noah had given her, perched on her lap. She'd been totally shocked when he arrived the day after their practice scene with a stuffie in tow. Especially considering he left me at the door with nothing more than a kiss on the forehead the night before.

Sitting across from her and wedged into the opposite corner, Darling gave her a puzzled look. They were nearing the end of their scheduled tea party when her friend had asked her about how things were going with Noah. In the background Mickey Mouse burst into his “hot doggity dog” song. "What's there to understand, Viv. Daddy Noah obviously wants you." Today the other little wore a cute onesie with a satin cow print tutu that Vivica had made for her. "You're the bees knees for him."

She shook her head. "How could I be? I didn't act out. I completely behaved myself during our scene.”

“Totally unlike you, and I’m sure he knew it.”

She shook her head. “Regardless, I should've won our wager. He should've moved on."

"But, instead of letting you go as expected, he shows up the next day with Tony." Her friend nodded to the fuzzy tiger Vivica held. Her newest companion, he rarely left her side while at home. It made her feel close to Noah even when they were apart. It was something a good daddy did.

Clenching the stuffie closer to her face, Vivica laid her head on its furry back. The oh so familiar heartbeat thudded under her ear. "I still can't believe he went to the trouble of finding a newborn stuffie."

A specialized model, it allowed parents to record their heartbeat for their newborn child. It was a total comfort toy, and the fact that Noah had taken the time to record his own heartbeat into the stuffie had nearly made her burst into tears when he'd told her to hug it tight for the first time. The observant bastard must've noticed how she took comfort in listening to his heart. Nothing new there.

"So, did you take the bull by the horns, and ask him why he was still hanging around?" Darling reached for another nibble. Between them a tray of crackers and sliced meats and cheese was better than half demolished.

Vivica shrugged. "Sorta."

"What do you mean sorta? Either you did or didn't." She eyed Vivica. "Quit being dense, girl."

"I asked him what he was doing," Vivica admitted. "Reminded him that I'd been a good girl during our scene and that he didn't need to do any of this." She squeezed Tony even tighter.

"And what did he do?" She pursed her lips at Vivica.

"He told me he didn't do anything he didn't want to, gave me a kiss on my forehead, and reminded me actions speak louder than words before leaving."

"That’s weird. Most daddies would’ve taken the opportunity to let their Little express their gratitude.” Darling wiggled her eyebrows. “If you know what I mean?”

Vivica caught one of the throw pillows and tossed it at Darling.
