The Woman and the Bird

Whack! Whack! Whack! The woman hacked at a banana tree.

High above, in the banana tree branches, a mother bird sat on her nest.

“Stop it!” she begged. “Please stop it at once!”

But all the woman could hear were the cries of some noisy bird.

So – Whack! Whack! Whack! – she kept on hacking, until finally the banana tree fell to the ground, taking the poor bird’s nest along with it.

“You’ve wrecked my nest! You’ve broken my eggs!” cried the bird.

But all the woman could hear was screeching and squawking, so she slung the axe over her shoulder and headed home.
