I gave my head one last slam into the dirt and screamed, “Stop it!” and then gasped in a gulp of fresh air and flung my neck forward. I was still switched on and could feel a bundle of emotions clouding my mind, but what came out was vomit.

Moments later I found myself lying on my side, Morpheus holding my hand. He lifted me off the ground as Ms Jones pulled my hair out of my face.

“Oh, thank God you’re okay,” she gasped.

I leaned into Morpheus’s body for support, but a burst of adrenaline was still coursing through me and before I could doubt my sanity, I left my body state on autopilot and ran towards the demon that was climbing back into the well. I grabbed it by the throat and with a voice rumbling deep in my throat spoke in Latin to the demon,

“Where is the archdemon?”

Underneath, its rib cage cracked in two and opened, and I could feel my soul being sucked into it bit by bit. Forcing my body to freeze in time and space as my soul drifting away, becoming lost.

“How does it feel… to breathe in the fear your parents felt before they died?”

“The… archdemon. Tell me where I can find it.” I struggled to form the words—it sounded mostly like indiscernible noise coming from my mouth.

“You have met your match, archangel. All that you love will die and you will recoil in the ash you were created in.”

I twisted out of my false surrender and kicked its chest, jumping into the air, sword tip pointed down.

“This is where you meet your end!”

I sliced the demon’s head off and it rolled backwards into the well, but before it could hit the ground it turned to ash that floated down.

I staggered backwards and saw Lisa. She shinned the brightest white halo I had ever seen as she smiled. And little baby wings grew behind her.

Thank you, Kaiya, you saved my family.

When the time is right Lisa…I promise I will fix whatever is going on and you will find the light.

She looked towards her family through the house walls.

I don’t mind waiting...

I returned to my body and touched my chest to join my mind to it once again. My legs gave out and Morpheus caught me by the waist. I shut my eyes. I didn’t want to see what I had seen. I didn’t want to believe the thoughts in the back of my head screaming at me, telling me he wasn’t human.

“Kaiya!” He shook my body.

“Give me a second,” I groaned. Morpheus let out a sigh of relief.

Azazel entered from the back gate, rushing into the backyard with Hank, his youngest daughter in Willow’s arms behind him. They looked sceptical when they saw me in Morpheus’ arms and my face turned nearly as red as Willow’s hair.

“I can stand—”

“No, you can’t. We’re going home.” Morpheus moved past everyone, and I felt more vomit curdling with every rocky step we took on the uneven turf.

“What did you do to her!” Willow cried out.
