The classic tin solider was usually made of a tin-lead alloy, but this one is 99.99% pure tin.

TIN IS A lovely element. It’s pretty much completely nontoxic, it stays shiny forever, it’s easy to melt and cast into minutely detailed shapes, and it’s not horribly expensive. Oddly, a lot of things called tin—including tin cans, tinfoil, and tin roofs—are not, and never were, made of actual tin. The word has come to mean any sort of thin sheet metal.
