They all stopped in their tracks, the hair at the back of their necks standing up in fright. They turned with great speed and ran as fast as their legs could carry them out of the cave screaming loudly.

“Aaaaaargh!”

They did not stop until they reached the safety of the bushes and dived behind them.

“Poor Monty,” said Fred. “Do you think the monster’s eaten him?”

“I hope not!” replied the tearful Myrtle.

“Hush!” said Pippa peeping above the bushes to look at the cave entrance, “I think the monster’s coming.”

Fred and Myrtle slowly raised their heads to look. They could hear echoing footsteps and the roar from the approaching danger.
