General adaptations include many different strategies and resources, a few of which are listed here:

•magnification or text enlargement (e.g., books available in different fonts, magnifiers)

•graphic organizers (for all subject areas, including reading, writing, and math)

•peer tutors or paired learning

•examples embedded in assignments (that students can readily refer to)

•color coding, highlighting, or bolding key words or concepts

•manipulatives or counters

•resource guide or toolkit (that contains examples, steps to be completed, etc.)

•word banks (for reading, writing)

•assignment checklist (including materials to take home from school)

•planner or organizational tool

•alternate responses (e.g., oral, typewritten, pictorial)

•assistive technology (e.g., calculator, word processor, dictation recorder, communication device)

•alternate writing utensils (e.g., weighted pencils, pencil grips, “fat” markers, stamps)

•alternate paper (e.g., paper with raised lines, paper with varied margins, paper with varied line width or length)
