Chapter Seventeen

Desmon Mason had fallen asleep early that evening. It was to be a fitful slumber, a restless night, a tossing and turning of protracted evil.

Penetrating from deep within his land of dreams could once again be heard a distant clanging of a hammer against an anvil.

It was constant but faint sounding at first. Soon the pounding began to grow steadily louder, mind-numbing dark and deafening.

A shadowy figure of evil crawled to the surface from deep within his psyche and whispered in his ear. It was a familiar voice and it began to speak.

“You shall build my temple,” it said in a haunting voice, “…and my temple shall become a wonder to all the world. You shall honor me with a sacrifice of blood and worship my master.”

The voice paused briefly, then continued as the stench of sulfur grew stronger.

“You shall call my holy temple Eridu,” said the raspy-garbled voice from within.

Eridu, the mystery temple of doom, carnal-sin, lasciviousness and brimstone, constructed in a mystery city with its hanging gardens,” it continued in a cold threatening voice of evil.

“Soon, a dragon will appear… be prepared.”

The voice went silent and Skulleon crawled back deep within Desmon’s desolate soul.

Not long after, Desmon sat at his desk musing over the building plans, charts and elevation diagrams for his new temple, the Temple of Eridu. It was currently under construction and close to completion, located at the City Center and currently under review.

In attendance of the review board were representatives from the Engineer & Building Contractor’s Assoc. LLC, members of the Governmental Safety & Regulatory Commission and a Grounds & Landscaping consultant. All were on Desmon’s payroll.

Desmon seemed remarkably pleased with what he saw depicted upon the graphical diagram set before him. As he read from the descriptive side-notes, he was able to mentally visualize each portion of the large structure.

He took particular note of the elegant black marble steps leading up to the front entrance, split to either side and angled in a broad inverted-Vee configuration, creating a wide gap to the center for an unobstructed view of future religious ceremonies.

This opening was comprised predominantly of intricately placed stone pavers, which formed a large staging-lot, specifically designed as a rallying-point for the gathering masses.

In contrast high above, a terrace-like balcony was set to the middle, designed to permit a free and unobstructed view of Mason as he presided over the crowds. There in his holy garb, he would offer a discourse of enlightenment, leading the attending masses to the holy-way of beastly salvation in the baptismal blood of Gog the Almighty.

The front of the temple was to face East. This was a planned theatrical effect allowing for the setting sun to backlight the enormous structure at the time of his weekly twilight rallies.

After the sermon was complete, an evening torchlight parade would take place in the center lot. Testimonials of the converted would follow, along with a featured display of torture for those non-initiated; then followed by some possible beheadings.

“It would be a fun-filled event… an all-night affair,” reasoned Desmon with a sardonic grin.
