Beneath a thin layer of tissue paper, Max unveiled a white polo shirt with the New York Giants football team’s blue helmet stitched onto the chest. Max held it up and smiled. Nice. There was a business card in the box. Max took it out and read, “Brenton Banks, Esq. Mergers and Acquisitions.”

Max opened his desk drawer and took out the envelope holding the two box-seat tickets for an upcoming Yankees versus Red Sox game that a magazine rep had dropped off for him yesterday. Max stared at the tickets—third row behind first base. He’d planned on asking Cassidy to the game, but instead grabbed the phone and dialed the number on Banks’ card.
