“Why would they want so many pets?” Donna asked.

“Having a lot of pets is like having a lot of friends,” Gary said.

“Look at the woman,” Diane whispered. “Look what she’s doing.”

The woman was wearing a short skirt and T-shirt. The children watched as she tied on a few layers of padding. Then she put on a large dress covered with pictures of tiny flowers. The woman put on a gray wig and a pair of eyeglasses. She picked up a small white poodle and was about to leave the barn.

“Quick!” Donna said. “Let’s get away from here.”

The children ran to the purple house. Gary said, “They may not be spies, but they’re up to something.”

The barn door opened. The woman came out carrying the poodle.

“Who’s that?” Kevin asked.

“That’s the young woman with the short skirt. She’s wearing a disguise,” Donna said.

The woman walked past the front of the purple house. She was walking toward the gate.

“Come on,” Donna said. “Let’s follow her.”
