They left before dawn and worked their way east. In an effort to avoid goblins, they took a southern route that brought them closer to the lake. Throughout it all Tryton walked beside Urthin. That morning he'd impressed upon the dwarf the gravity of the situation, and stressed the dangers of attempting escape. In spite of his efforts, the dwarf's grin showed through his beard, and did not fade when Sybrik made disparaging comments about his kind. On the fourth day they reached the pit.
