Chapter 12 – Punishment Leads to My Governess

Miss White glared at him in contempt. This was the second time he had crossed her path and she felt the time had come to squash him in front of everyone.

"You're a pathetic, little idiot!” she snarled cruelly. "Tell the class what you are!” she ordered, losing all sense of restraint.

"A pathetic idiot, Miss.", the teenager mumbled as he stared down at his desk.

Some of the pupils sniggered. All eyes were on Julian.

Miss White picked up 2 large books from her desk, smirking sadistically as she did so. They looked like large dictionaries and seemed perfectly suitable for what the female teacher had in mind.

"Seeing as you're so honest, you're going to demonstrate to us all how pathetic you really are," mocked Miss White sarcastically.

The class looked on in amazement.

What was going to happen next?

The schoolmistress strolled up to Julian and threw the large books down hard on his desk.

"Pick them up, NOW!” she bawled.

Total silence reigned in the classroom.

The confused teenager wiped his perspiring hands and took hold of the books cautiously. Why was she doing this to him? He felt something was wrong but couldn't think of anything he might do or say to prevent her from abusing him.

The young, female teacher suddenly expanded her arms out sideward in a crucifix position, her features very stern and cold as she stared at her pupil. Perhaps deep down she knew she was going too far - a fact that incensed her even more.

"You will hold the books in each hand like this for the duration of the class!” she hissed cruelly. "You will keep your arms straight and NOT bend your elbows. You're going to stand with arms outstretched, holding those books till I give you permission to do otherwise. Am I making myself clear?"

"Yes, Miss!” the pupil stammered.

The truth, of course, was that Julian didn't have to pick up the books and allow himself to be subjected to such calculated abuse. His was a working-class school where boys were chastised on a regular basis but, even by the standards of that particular period, the form Mistress was exacting a punishment that would have been considered to be too harsh and pointlessly cruel.

True, some boys had been ordered to stand in the corner - hands on their heads - or been frog marched to the toilets to have their mouths washed out with soap, but this was something else. Discipline was one thing but this was calculated sadism and the form Mistress knew it.

Most students would have refused to do as she ordered and would most certainly have made a stand. They would then have been sent to the Headmaster’s office for the cane, or been given a couple of strokes across the hands by the female teacher herself - only to be admired by all who were present and hailed as a hero.

Miss White was obviously expecting her pupil to make a stand at this point but, for some reason, he didn't dare show her any defiance.
