Antminer A3

Bitmain’s Antminer A3 is an ASIC miner that performs a Blake 2(b) algorithm hash and the coin people mine for with it is the coin called Siacoin.

The Blake 2(b) algorithm was supposed to be one that was ASIC resistant (i.e., should have been only being mined on GPU cards) but Bitmain and other companies figured out how to develop ASIC miners to do the job. The A3 mines at 815 GH/s and uses about 1270 watts of electricity. Innosilicon has a miner capable of mining at 4.3 TH/s. The Obelisk SC1 is another machine set to mine Siacoin at 550 GH/s. That miner is connected with the Siacoin development team and it seemed that they had embraced the idea of ASIC miners but they have since decided that they will hardfork the Sia blockchain on October 31, 2018 to brick Bitmain and Innosilicon’s Siacoin miners, leaving only their miner as capable of mining Siacoin. The Obelisk started shipping in August 2018. Siacoin is way less than 1 cent per coin in December 2018.
