The next morning.
Heather and Deanâs Residence.
She (Heather) talks on the phone with her best friend, Daphne.)
HEATHER âWhere have you been? I must have left you thousands of messages yesterday. Where were you?â
DAPHNE âSorry, I got to the hotel late last night, and my phone just went dead on me. There were too many clients I had to see on my first day.â
HEATHER âThey should give you some breathing time. You only started this job yesterday.â
DAPHNE âItâs fine.â
HEATHER âSo you are at work now?â
DAPHNE âYes. Iâm right here. Whatâs up?â
HEATHER âI am supremely bored around here. I donât know what to do with myself.â
DAPHNE âYou shouldnât be. Whereâs your husband?â
HEATHER âI donât know. Donât even ask me.â
DAPHNE âWhat do you mean you donât know? You are married to this guy, and you are pregnant by him.â
HEATHER âBecause I honestly donât know where he is at.â
DAPHNE âDid you guys fight last night?â
HEATHER âWe had a little bit of an argument, and he didnât sleep at home.â
DAPHNE âNo way. He shouldnât have left you all alone at home.â
HEATHER âItâs not new, Daphne. This is the new normal. Heâs always sleeping out.â
DAPHNE âBut you are pregnant. He should stick around, at least. Anything can happen, especially now that you have been diagnosed with hyperemesis.â
HEATHER âIâm not that important to him. I have never been.â
DAPHNE âHave you tried reaching him to find out where he is at?â
HEATHER âHeâs fine. Heâs probably in one of their luxury guest homes nearby.â
DAPHNE âAre you sure?â
HEATHER âDonât worry yourself over what heâs doing. He could be with one of his hoes I could care less. I wonât be surprised. Heâs been caught with one before. There could be many more affairs that we may not know about.â
DAPHNE âIâm sorry, Heather.â
HEATHER âThe one who gets to make the babies is treated like a piece of trash, and the other one who hasnât is worshipped around here like a Queen. Itâs such an unfair world.â
DAPHNE âAisling is still around, or did she go back to the fertility place?â
HEATHER âSheâs here. She is not leaving until a month after Christmas.â
DAPHNE âOh, they managed to get her to stay.â
HEATHER âDuke has purchased a restaurant space for her at the Wesbury Square.â
(Daphne shouts at her end, delighted.)
DAPHNE âYou are joking with me!â
HEATHER âWhy should this surprise you? Itâs Duke Presley. Thatâs easy.â
DAPHNE âThatâs a prime area.â
HEATHER âI know. She has always wanted to start an eating place. I guess they were waiting for the right spot to show up.â
DAPHNE âWow.â
HEATHER âHe worships her, baby or no baby.â
DAPHNE âI have been praying the same for you.â
HEATHER âDonât waste your time. I want to go to Lincoln tomorrow. Canât stay here this weekend.â
DAPHNE âWhen do you plan to return home?â
HEATHER âIn two weeks or probably more.â
DAPHNE âIsnât that too long a time to go away?â
HEATHER âWho cares? I need to be around the people I love. There isnât one for me here, except for my son, and Iâm going to take him along.â
DAPHNE âDo you think heâs going to be okay with that?â
HEATHER âI donât need approval from the asshole.
