Siana dressed for riding. It was a hobby that served dual purposes: she received exercise in the light of day, the sun tanning her skin, and honed battle skills while atop a horse.

Sometimes enemies were not only vampire, but the low creatures of the earth.

The temple felt stifling of late in the wake of the horrible interlude with Baird, and Siana had taken to riding each day.

It made her forget the scathing sentiments he flung about, aimed like weapons of words, on a direct trajectory to her heart. Even now her anger warmed her, without need of her cloak and she mounted her steed, letting the beast choose its own path.

That suited Siana. A random course was perfect for the mood she found herself in.

Her horse drove hard, kicking up the soft floor of the earth, soaring through the trees. Her mount wove between branches that would have caught Siana, expertly avoiding their bony reach.

Siana closed her eyes, grasping the thick mane, the reins tucked under the light saddle, secured by a closed hook. Her ass was hiked slightly in the air, face pressed against the mane. The only thing that was a constant was the wind; chilly and damp, it flowed over her delicate nostrils, tickling them with the faintest tone of the sea beyond.

When a second set of hoofbeats joined hers, she did not ken to it at first, so perfectly did they synchronize with her own mount's.

Siana's eyes popped open, the profile of her face pressed against the horse's soft mane, the smell of fresh hay and grass a comfort.

But not this day.

A pair of eyes that were almost white met hers, shot through with blue.

Like lightning.

Rogue.

Fear flooded Siana. For the next question that tumbled into the first was: if he be rogue, how is it that he travels in daylight?

Horses are sensitive creatures and her steed was no different. It immediately sensed its mistress' distress and buried her hooves in the soft earth, halting their easy gallop in an instant. The horse slid, deepening the burial of her hooves in the soft ground.

Siana was flung over the horse's shoulders and she landed on her back so hard she literally saw stars.

She lay gasping for air, her human needs overtaking the vampire automatically. Siana lay vulnerable when the rogue came, a black stallion trailing by a casual hand on the reins.

Siana groaned, trying to sit up, slapping her palm about where her weapons ought to be.

Oh no, she wailed inside her head, they had become scattered about like dead leaves when she was thrown.

The second thing she realized is that this was no rogue. He was vampire, of that she was sure... but something else as well.

They stared at each other, the hint of a smile turning his full lips up at the corners, softening his Reaper coloring.

Siana watched the sun pierce the canopy of the trees and he winced when a puzzle piece of light lay claim to his cheekbone and Siana watched a slow smolder begin.
