Chapter 4. Alexis

I mention Alexis McDowell in here because she is the one who almost got away, and in the end, was the one who led to me being arrested. I will admit, I underestimated Alexis, she fought back, hard, which I like in a person. I wish more of the girls would have struggled, made the whole experience more interesting. But no, none of them had the will to live like Alexis did. I still have the scar on my cheek where she managed to get a good swipe in before I finished her off.

Alexis was an all star volley ball player for Mizzou, which was new territory for me. I had moved away from Saint Louis after the cops started narrowing down their searches, seeing through my patterns, save for the few outliers like Janet and Quinn. They still had their primary suspect down as a male, the public comparing me to Ted Bundy, which, frankly, is quite sexist, and insulting. A woman can be just as prolific a serial killer as a man, and I suppose they know that now.

Anyway, I had just moved to Columbia, looking for a fresh start. Unfortunately, Columbia was not Saint Louis, in that there was no crawling expanse of seedy industrial areas and titty bars to blend in to. Columbia was a rural town pretending to be a city, and as such, one had to be more careful, because the cops there weren’t overloaded with gang murders and drug violence to keep them distracted from the quiet, prolific predators like myself.

I had just gotten a job bartending at a place simply called “The Tiger’s Den”, a campus sports bar where most of the jocks and athletes went to get shit faced, either in victory of winning a game or to drown their shame at an embarrassing loss. Either way, it was the perfect setup for me. I was in close proximity to the campus, I had regular customers who were normally so drunk they didn’t pay attention to their surroundings, which allowed me to observe and appraise the cattle, and see which one I wanted to take to the slaughter house.

Alexis caught my eye after she had come in with her team to celebrate winning the tri-state semi-finals or something, I don’t know, I don’t give a shit about sports. All I know is that she came in there like a hurricane, picking girls up and swinging them around like it was nothing, chugging beer like a senior frat brother. She had platinum blonde hair, stunning blue eyes and a thick frame that was a mixture of very blessed fat placement, and pure muscle. Normally I went after the skinny ones, or in a few instances, heavier girls like Quinn. But I had never quite tussled with an athlete. I suppose I understand now the way big game hunters feel after they kill a moose and then can’t wait to go after a famed grizzly bear. Alexis wasn’t just about satiating my urge to destroy.
