âWe have to block all sunlight from reaching me,â Clark said. âIs there sunscreen in your bag?â
Lois dug around in her beach bag. She pulled out a bottle and read the label. âSPF 40,â she said. âThat should help. Wrap the towels around yourself, too.â
Clark covered himself in the sunscreen. Then he draped the towels over his body.
âOne more thing,â Lois said. She pulled off her hat and placed it on Clarkâs head.
âThere,â Lois said with a smile. âDonât you look cute!â
Lois sat back and waited. After a while, she asked, âDo you feel any weaker?â
âNo,â Clark replied. âIt will take years this way. Iâve been charging with solar energy my entire life.â
âWe need a better way to weaken you,â Lois said. âWe canât just wait for your batteries to run down. If you exercise, will it drain your energy?â
âGood idea,â Clark said. Keeping the hat on and the towels wrapped around him, Clark stood. He jumped up and down, waving his arms and legs, doing superpowered jumping jacks. Clark exercised so fast that his limbs blurred like a hummingbirdâs wings.
After an hour of jumping jacks, Clark stopped. âI feel a little weaker,â he told Lois. âIâm not draining fast enough, though. I have to break out of this dream before Abra Kadabra finishes building his machine.â
âUse your heat vision,â Lois suggested. âThat burns up a lot of energy, doesnât it?â
âAnother good idea,â Clark replied. He let loose a stream of heat vision into the ocean while he continued jumping jacks.
The water sizzled, evaporating where his heat vision hit it. It was a good thing this ocean was imaginary and endless!
After many hours of draining himself, Clark only felt about halfway drained. He stopped and sighed. âThere has to be a way to make this go faster,â he complained.
âHmm,â Lois said. âWell, maybe youâre still getting too much sunlight. That would recharge you while youâre trying to empty yourself. Even with SPF 40 and the towels and hat, some sunlight gets through.â
Clark nodded. Then he smiled, struck with an idea. He spun around in place as fast as he could.
