The three of them doubled over with laughter until their faces hurt. It had been such a stressful day and it all seemed so comical somehow. They had somewhat composed themselves when they heard a knock at the door.

“I’m sorry I’m late,” Mae panted once Annabelle let her in the room. “I had to harass my grocer to prep this for me and let me tell you he works slowly!”

“You’re right on time, we’ve run out of remedies,” Mila said as she wiped her eyes.

“Splendid! Let’s start with these.” Mae pulled out two small vials. “These are Benzedrine Inhalers. You put it on the edge of your nostril and inhale.”

Mila and Annabelle took one each, looking at it skeptically.

“Winters in Canada are treacherous, and these are perfect to remedy a head cold.” Mae then produced two mason jars. “Then you drink a hot toddy. It’s a mixture of hot water, lemon, honey, and whisky. It packs a punch, but you feel as good as new after!”

“We have nothing to lose at this point,” Mila sighed.

“Might as well,” Annabelle agreed.
