Sometime later, Jack and Abbie lay spent on rumpled bed sheets. His phone alarm went off, and he groaned.

Abbie snuggled closer. “If you kiss me, I’ll make you some coffee.”

He pressed his mouth to hers while she moved closer until the length of her body touched his. She loved the feel of his skin against hers.

“Abbie, I’ll be late if I don’t get up now.”

She arched an eyebrow.

“And get dressed. We had a deal. A kiss for a coffee. I believe I’ve delivered my part of the bargain.”

“Have you? I don’t remember. Remind me.”

He kissed her again, a slow, deliberate kiss that drew a sigh from her. “Remember that while you’re making that coffee.”

Abbie gave him a slightly tortured smile and got up. Slipping into last night’s sweater and jeans, she went to the kitchen.

Five minutes later, Jack emerged fully dressed and in a rush. “I just got a text from work. No time for coffee.” He gave her a quick kiss and paused just long enough to look into her eyes and shake his head. “Abbie Harper…”
