CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Jackson quietly opened the garage door and followed Izzy to her car.
âDo you have a second?â he asked.
âSure. Whatâs up?â
âI feel silly saying this, but it would give me some peace of mind if I could get some answers.â
âIâm happy to help.â
Izzy threw her bag onto the passenger seat and stepped back on the sidewalk closer to Jackson.
âYou know those dreams Alex has been having â the ones you think are related to past lives?â
âYeah.â
âI had something similar happen last week. It felt too real; it spooked me a bit.â
Izzy smiled.
âAh, thatâs what Alex has been picking up then. You know she suspects somethingâs going on with you?â
âI figured. Iâm just not sure what it is myself.â
âIt must have been powerful if youâre still haunted by it.â
âI donât dream often, but like I said this was unlike any dream Iâve ever had. The grief is still overwhelming. Alex was there and so were you, but you were also different. Does that make sense?â
âIt does,â Izzy said with a knowing smile.
âI called her Addie in the dream, but she had Alexâs eyes.â Jackson looked away as he fought back tears. He struggled to get the words out as they caught in his throat. âI tried to save her, but I was too late. And the thought of living with that guilt was too much to bear. I can still feel the weight of that grief. Does this sound crazy?â
âNot at all.â
âIs there any way to know if this was real or not?â
âYou tapped into a past incarnation for sure. Iâve been reading that Akashic Record since you started recounting the dream. Itâs an especially painful one because your future with Alex, or Addie in that life, was cut short, and it was many lifetimes before you came back together again.â
Jackson shifted his weight uncomfortably. He glanced around, worried that neighbors might be eavesdropping. This was a conversation he never thought he would have. He had wrestled with the idea of bringing this up with Izzy and ultimately decided to ask because the grief had been gnawing at him for a week.
âSorry, itâs just this is so hard for me to wrap my head around.â
âItâs normal to have this reaction. You donât have to apologize for having an analytical mindset. Iâm used to people struggling when faced with something that challenges their current belief system.â
âNormally, Iâd dismiss all of it and chalk it up to just a vivid dream, but the grief is eating me up. I thought it would dissipate once Alex returned, but Iâm still worried that I wonât be able to protect her when she needs me. I let her down before.â
âYou didnât,â Izzy insisted. âYour love and devotion have protected her more than youâll ever know. Why donât you open up to her? You know she would understand.â
âShe has so much on her plate. Iâm supposed to shield her from anything that can stress her out, not add to her worries.â
âIf youâre suffering, sheâd want to know.
