Chapter twenty-one

I did not expect Jasper's heat to affect me the way it has. I knew it would, obviously. He's an omega, of course his heat would affect me. I just thought that it was so intense last time because it was Talia, too. But this...this is completely different from what I expected. And, for all my banter and bullshit, I don't know that Jasper and I really want or need to take our relationship to the level that me climbing into his nest without a clear goal would elevate us to. I like Jasper. I might even adore his cute little ass; and it is cute. I definitely enjoy looking at him, no doubt. But enjoying the scenery and talking about it are not the same thing as taking a trip through the mountains.

Talia wouldn't mind. Jesus, she's basically encouraging it. Her hormones are wild right now. She's going in and out of the nest a few times a day. She needs to check in on him as much as he needs to see and smell her. Kaleb says this is a normal heat for Jasper, not like the synced heat where he was completely coherent the whole time. The waves seem to be hitting him harder this time, whereas during the synced heat Talia was battered while he was coasting above them.

Corso has steered completely clear of Jasper's room. Reid has been in and out of the nest due to the bond he has with Jasper. I asked him if it felt different than it did with Talia and he said, and I quote, “Jasper is a softer pull, but no less intense. His need calls to me at a different frequency”. That makes perfect sense, and at the same time sounds like some high-quality bullshit.

“How much longer do you think he'll go?” I ask Talia when she comes out onto the porch and sits next to me on the swing.

“Two days, tops. He's over the worst of it. How are you handling it? Corso seems to be immune, for lack of a better word. Reid has a bond so he needs to be with him.”

I set us to swinging before I answer. “My balls hurt and I want to fuck. I don't want Jasper to feel like I, as an alpha, don't want to care for him; but I want to care for him in different ways. And when I went in to check on him earlier he was more concerned with bitching at me for leaving you alone than my dick, so there's that.”

Talia laughs at me. Laughs her ass off. “I can help with your poor balls, and we can definitely fuck. You and Jasper might eventually have a sexual relationship and you can fuck him, too. But in the meantime, he's happy the way things are. And I don't think helping him through a heat spike like you did is the same thing as helping him through his actual heat.”

We listen to the swing creek and the crows yell for a while.
